WYBOT S2 Solar Vision review: does the solar dock work?
Our verdict
The S2 Solar Vision is the clearest attempt yet at a pool robot you never lift out. Reviewers found it strong on walls and the waterline and good on fine debris, but solar charging is slow, docking and app links are unreliable for a share of owners, and runs come in near two hours. At $1,599.99, buy it for a small, sunny pool with light debris, and plan to plug the dock in.

Short answer: the S2 Solar Vision is the most complete attempt we've seen at a pool robot that lives in the water. It cleans, returns to an underwater dock and charges from a solar panel on the pool edge, so you don't lift a wet 20 lb robot out after each run. Two published reviews found it strong on walls, the waterline and fine debris. The catch is the part that makes it special: solar charging takes days, docking and the app's link to the dock fail often enough that owners complain, and runs come in nearer two hours than the claimed 2.5. Buy it for a small, sunny pool with light debris, and plan on plugging the dock in.

WYBOT's US store listed it at $1,599.99 on Oct 29, 2026, against a $1,999.99 compare-at price. The non-camera S2 Solar was $1,399.99 the same day. This page covers both, since they share the dock and most of the owner reports.
Who should buy the S2 Solar Vision, and who should skip it
Buy it if the main thing you want from a robot is never handling it. The S2 Solar Vision is built around a routine: it runs a scheduled cycle, returns to its dock when the battery drops below 20% (WYBOT's figure), and charges there. It suits a pool in full sun, with dust, sand and pollen rather than heavy leaf fall, and an owner who's happy to plug the dock in when the sky won't cooperate.
Skip it if your pool sits under a screen enclosure, trees or a north wall and you expect the panel to do the work, or if you get big storm debris loads that need a long run with a large basket. Skip it too if you want dependable remote control from your phone; owners describe the app's link to the dock as the weakest part. For a big, leafy pool, the Aiper Scuba X1 Pro Max has a much larger basket and a wireless charging dock that plugs in. For a cheaper camera robot you charge by hand, see the WYBOT C2 Vision.
How does the S2 Solar Vision work?
There are three parts. The robot is a treaded cordless cleaner with a front AI Vision camera. The dock hangs on the pool wall below the waterline and has its own battery, 2,600 mAh per PCWorld, which charges the robot through contacts. The solar panel sits flat on the coping above the dock. PCWorld describes it as a 30 W panel with no battery of its own; it feeds the dock, and the dock also takes a plug-in adapter.

Cleaning modes, per WYBOT's EMEA release, are Full, Floor, Wall, Waterline, Wall and Floor, Turbo and Eco, plus the camera's dirt-hunting mode, which works on the floor only. You can set a weekly schedule in the app, and WYBOT's page describes spot cleaning by app remote. Filtration is a 180 micron filter box with a 40 ppi sponge layer for finer material.
Underwater, WYBOT says the dock talks to the robot by sonar, so you can recall it without fishing. The Daily Mail reviewer confirmed underwater recall worked. Above water, the app connects over Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, which means your router needs to reach the pool edge.

What reviewers and owners report
Two published reviews cover this platform. PCWorld reviewed the S2 Solar Vision in July 2025; the Daily Mail reviewed the S2 Solar, the same dock without the camera, in August 2025. We also read the Reddit threads linked below. Neither review is ours, and we didn't test it.
- Walls and waterline are its strength. PCWorld rated wall and waterline cleaning excellent, and an owner in Las Vegas on r/pools called it great on walls.
- Pick a mode, not "everything". PCWorld found the all-surfaces mode left the floor barely touched, while floor-only mode picked up all its test leaves. The Daily Mail reviewer had coverage trouble in a hopper-bottom pool and got the best results from the star pattern in the Expert menu. The Las Vegas owner settled on star for floors and N for walls.
- Solar charging is slow. PCWorld needed more than 2.5 days of Texas summer sun to take the robot from 19% to 100%. The Las Vegas owner said solar only got his to about 85%, so he leaves the dock plugged in.
- Docking misses. The same owner said it docks about half the time. A Southern California owner in the "is it garbage?" thread said it approached the dock off-center and seemed to forget how to dock. PCWorld once had to rescue it with a pole when it failed to return.
- The app's link to the dock is unreliable. The Southern California owner said the app couldn't find the solar unit most of the time and dock commands failed. Another owner, who bought from a big-box store, said cleaning was great but he often has to walk out and press Play on the dock. PCWorld found the dock buttons slow to respond and saw the dock lose its connection overnight when its battery ran down.
- Firmware cuts both ways. PCWorld lost connectivity after a firmware update and WYBOT sent a replacement. The Daily Mail reviewer saw updates fail repeatedly. One r/RobotVacuums owner said a July 20, 2025 update fixed his complaints.
- Short runs, odd battery readings. PCWorld's runs ended near two hours and it called the battery readings inaccurate. The Las Vegas owner reported about an hour per charge on his second replacement.
- Fine debris is good. The Daily Mail reviewer praised fine-particle pickup and called it one of the most convenient robots it had tried, mostly because scheduled cleans needed no handling.
- Support is slow. Owners describe waits of weeks; one said about six. Another owner in the r/RobotVacuums thread never got his unit to charge and returned it after going back and forth with support.
Reviews on WYBOT's own store for this model are all positive, but there are only a handful and the brand hosts them, so we give them little weight.
These are patterns from a small set of public threads and two published reviews, not a survey, and people with problems post more often.
What does it cost to keep running?
WYBOT's US store listed these S2 Solar Vision parts on Oct 29, 2026:
| Part | WYBOT US store price, seen Oct 29, 2026 |
|---|---|
| Filter box | $29.99 |
| Charger | $32.99 |
| Dock adapter | $19.99 |
| Drive belt | $19.99 |
| Leveling foot | $12.99 |
| Outlet cover | $11.99 |
| Cap | $12.99 |
The dock and panel add parts a hand-charged robot doesn't have. The Las Vegas owner said water pooled in the recessed gasket around the panel and that the dock's hanging plastic felt fragile, so treat the dock adapter and leveling foot as the likely spares. There's no user-replaceable battery listed for the robot or dock.
Common problems and fixes
- Won't dock, or docks off-center: clean the filter, then lower the robot in tilted so trapped air escapes. WYBOT's FAQ says air left in the robot after filter cleaning shifts how it approaches the dock. Make sure the dock hangs level and nothing blocks the area in front of it.
- App can't find the dock: move your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi closer to the pool or add an outdoor extender, and keep your phone near the dock for Bluetooth setup. If the dock battery ran flat overnight, PCWorld found you may need to tap Home again once it wakes.
- Charging stalls well below 100%: plug the dock into its adapter. WYBOT advises AC charging for heavily soiled pools and a schedule every other day when sun is limited.
- Floor left dirty after a full-pool run: run floor-only or the camera mode, and try the star pattern in Expert settings, which both reviewers and owners preferred.
- Kids knock it off the dock: recall it to the dock or take it out before swims.
- Firmware update fails: retry close to the router with the dock charged. If it bricks connectivity, contact WYBOT; PCWorld's unit was replaced. See our pool robot not moving or charging guide for general checks.
Is the S2 Solar Vision good for a Florida pool?
Florida has plenty of sun, so this looks like an easy fit. For many Florida pools it isn't, for one reason: the screened lanai. Screen mesh blocks a share of the light, a solid or partly roofed lanai blocks more, and a panel on the coping close to the screen wall may sit in shade for much of the day. We haven't seen a published shade test for WYBOT's panel, but given PCWorld's 2.5 days of full Texas sun, a screened pool should expect to run the dock from its plug-in adapter most of the time. That still keeps the main benefit: you never lift the robot out. See our screened lanai pool robot guide for the cleaning routine.
The cleaning itself suits a lanai pool. Screens keep out most leaves but not fine oak and pine pollen, which settles on the floor, where the camera mode works, and coats the waterline, which reviewers say this robot handles well. Rinse the sponge layer after every run in pollen season.
For an open pool, the sun helps, but summer storms bring leaf loads its filter box isn't sized for, and afternoon lightning makes a cleaning run on a schedule a good idea. Run it in the morning, and after a storm clear the leaves with a net or a skimmer before the robot runs. Pairing it with the F1 solar skimmer costs $1,799.99 as a WYBOT bundle; read our solar pool skimmers guide first. WYBOT doesn't publish a salt rating, so rinse the robot and dock contacts with fresh water now and then if you run a salt system. More on heat, storms and lanais in our Florida pool robot guide and is a pool robot worth it in Florida.

S2 Solar Vision or S2 Solar?
| Model | WYBOT US store price, Oct 29, 2026 | Difference |
|---|---|---|
| WYBOT S2 | $759.99 | No dock or panel; you charge it by hand. PCWorld cites a larger 7,800 mAh battery |
| WYBOT S2 Solar | $1,399.99 | Solar dock, no camera |
| WYBOT S2 Solar Vision | $1,599.99 | Solar dock plus camera dirt-hunting on the floor |
The camera is worth the extra $200 if your debris settles in one spot, such as the deep end or below a tree. Otherwise the S2 Solar gets you the same dock, and the plain S2 gets you a longer-running robot for less than half the price if you don't mind charging it by hand. Our cordless vs corded pool robots guide covers that trade-off.

A note on the WYBOT recall
In April 2026, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of about 5,000 WYBOT robots because their lithium-ion batteries can overheat. It covers specific serial ranges of the older Osprey 700 Max and S1 only. The S2 Solar and S2 Solar Vision aren't named. If you own an older WYBOT, check its serial number against the CPSC table.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Returns to a dock and charges there, so no lifting a wet robot
- Strong on walls and the waterline, per PCWorld and owners
- Good fine-debris pickup, per the Daily Mail
- Underwater recall through the dock
- 2-year warranty, 30-day returns
Cons
- Solar charging takes days; many owners plug the dock in
- Docking and the app's link to the dock fail for a share of owners
- Runs near 1 to 2 hours, below WYBOT's 2.5 hour claim
- Smaller filter box than big-basket rivals for leafy pools
- Owners report slow support and failed firmware updates
What are the alternatives?
- WYBOT C2 Vision: the same camera idea for $629.99, if you don't mind hooking it out and charging it.
- Aiper Scuba X1 Pro Max: a plug-in wireless charging dock, a big basket and long runs for leafy pools.
- Beatbot AquaSense 2 Ultra: surface skimming and a clarifier, with a charging station.
- Dolphin Nautilus CC Plus: corded, so it never needs charging at all.

Frequently asked questions
Does the S2 Solar Vision really charge from the sun?
Yes, but slowly. The 30 W panel on the coping feeds the dock, which charges the robot. PCWorld measured more than 2.5 days of Texas summer sun to go from 19% to 100%, and the Daily Mail reviewer said it needs a couple of days of good sun. WYBOT itself says to use the AC adapter for heavily soiled pools and to schedule every other day when sun is limited.
What is the difference between the S2 Solar and the S2 Solar Vision?
The camera. Both use the same solar dock and similar bodies. The Vision adds an AI Vision camera with floor-only dirt-hunting. On Oct 29, 2026 WYBOT listed the S2 Solar at $1,399.99 and the S2 Solar Vision at $1,599.99.
Will it work under a screened Florida lanai?
As a robot, yes. As a solar robot, expect less. Screen mesh and the lanai roof cut the light reaching the panel, so plan to run the dock from its plug-in adapter and treat solar as a top-up. We have not seen published shade tests for this panel.
How long does it run per charge?
WYBOT claims 2.5 hours or more. PCWorld's runs ended near two hours, and one owner on a replacement unit reported about an hour per charge. PCWorld lists a 5,200 mAh battery, smaller than the 7,800 mAh battery it cites for the non-solar S2.
Can kids swim with it in the pool?
The robot should come out of the swim area or sit on its dock during swims. The Daily Mail reviewer's children knocked it off the dock while playing. PCWorld noted the panel itself can be stepped on.
Is the S2 Solar Vision part of the WYBOT recall?
No. The April 2026 CPSC recall covers specific serial ranges of the older Osprey 700 Max and S1 only.
