Pool robot not climbing walls: fixes by brand
Our verdict
Clean the filter basket, charge to 100% and pick a wall mode; those three steps cover the top causes Aiper, Beatbot and Maytronics list. If it still slides off, follow your brand's steps below, and call support before buying parts.

What's wrong, and how do you fix it?
-
1Any pool robot not climbing walls: do these first
Aiper, Beatbot and Maytronics all put a clogged filter basket at or near the top of their wall-climbing fixes, and Aiper and Beatbot both add a full charge and the right mode.
Applies to: All brands
Likely causes
- Clogged or torn filter basket, which cuts the suction or jet that holds the robot on the wall
- Battery not fully charged
- A floor-only mode selected
- Algae on the walls making them slippery
Try this, in order
- Take out the filter basket, rinse it with a hose and check the mesh for tears
- Charge the robot to 100%
- Pick a wall mode in the app or on the robot, not a floor-only mode
- Brush any algae off the walls and bring the water chemistry back into range
- Run a full cycle and watch the first wall climb
Call the maker or your warranty line if: It still slides off after a clean basket, a full charge and a wall mode. Go to your brand below.

2Aiper Scuba X1, X1 Pro or X1 Pro Max not climbing walls
Aiper says wall climbing needs a full charge and Wall+Floor or Auto mode, and that rough finishes and very deep pools limit coverage per cycle.
Applies to: Aiper Scuba X1, X1 Pro, X1 Pro Max
Likely causes
- Battery not fully charged; Aiper says wall climbing uses far more power than floor cleaning
- Floor mode selected
- Debris on the drive rollers
- Pebble aggregate or rough plaster, which Aiper says gives less grip
- Pool deeper than 8 ft, where Aiper says one charge may not reach the full wall height
Try this, in order
- Charge fully before the run
- Select Wall+Floor or Auto mode in the Aiper app before you start the cycle
- Clean the drive rollers
- If it climbs to mid-wall and stops, run a second wall-mode cycle right after a floor run
- For waterline cleaning, keep the water level in the normal range, not below the skimmer mouth
Call the maker or your warranty line if: It still stops low on the wall with a full charge and clean rollers in a pool under 9 ft. Aiper calls partial wall coverage per cycle normal in pools deeper than 9 ft. On above-ground pools, Aiper says the robot may slide on walls steeper than 80 degrees.

3Aiper Scuba S1 or Seagull Pro not climbing walls
For the Seagull Pro, Aiper lists a clogged basket or the wrong mode as the usual causes. For the S1, it points to charge level, smooth walls and firmware.
Applies to: Aiper Scuba S1, Aiper Seagull Pro
Likely causes
- Clogged or torn basket (Seagull Pro relies on suction to hold the wall)
- Floor mode, which skips walls
- Low battery
- Water below mid-skimmer height (Seagull Pro)
- Very smooth vinyl or fiberglass walls, which Aiper says reduce traction and can make the S1 misread the waterline
Try this, in order
- Rinse the basket and replace it if the mesh is torn
- Run Wall or Auto mode; Aiper recommends Auto
- Charge fully; on the S1, wait for a solid green LED
- Seagull Pro: raise the water to at least mid-skimmer height
- S1 looping up and down the same wall: take it out, hold power for 10 seconds to reset, then update firmware in the Aiper app
- If only one wall section causes trouble, draw an exclusion zone over it in the app
Call the maker or your warranty line if: Collect the serial number and open a support ticket if it still won't hold the wall. Aiper says S1 pools deeper than 8 ft may need more than one cycle.

4Beatbot AquaSense 2 family not climbing walls
Beatbot says debris in the filter basket is the most common factor, and that a full basket makes the robot retry climbs and drain the battery.
Applies to: Beatbot AquaSense 2, AquaSense 2 Pro, AquaSense 2 Ultra
Likely causes
- Debris in the filter basket (Beatbot's top cause)
- The ultra-fine basket, which Beatbot says clogs more easily and raises power use
- Battery not fully charged
- A floor-focused mode
Try this, in order
- Clean the filter basket thoroughly
- In a dirty pool, switch to the standard basket until the water is clear, as Beatbot advises
- Charge fully, then put it back in the pool and restart the cycle
- To focus on walls, select Wall Mode and set the runtime to Max
Call the maker or your warranty line if: It still won't climb after a clean basket and a full charge. Beatbot asks you to upload a log through the Beatbot app and contact it with the serial number.

5Dolphin (Maytronics) not climbing walls
Maytronics' Wave 90i manual says a clogged filter stops the rear jet from pushing the robot onto the wall. It also lists algae, pH, impeller debris, cold water and a rear brush that's wrong for the surface.
Applies to: Maytronics Dolphin robots; steps from the Wave 90i manual, so check your model's manual
Likely causes
- Clogged filter
- Algae on the walls or pH out of range
- Debris in the impeller housing or cover
- Water below 59°F, where Maytronics says climbing may suffer
- Wall surface too slippery for the rear brush type
- Power supply badly placed or too little cable released
Try this, in order
- Clean the filter; on the Wave 90i, a steady orange light on the power supply means the filter is clogged
- Check chemistry, adjust it and scrub the walls if algae made them slippery
- Clear debris from the impeller housing and cover with a Phillips screwdriver, not a drill
- Confirm the water is between 43 and 95°F
- Place the power supply about mid-way along the long side, at least 12 ft from the pool and 4 in off the ground, with enough cable slack to reach the whole pool
- Stretch the cable out fully, let it dry, then rewind it without twists
Call the maker or your warranty line if: It still won't climb. Maytronics says to ask your dealer or distributor about switching the rear brush to a Wonder Brush for very smooth walls. North America customer care is 1-888-365-7446 ext. 1002, per the manual.

Start here: clean the filter basket, charge the robot to 100% and choose a wall mode, then run it again. Aiper, Beatbot and Maytronics all put a clogged basket at or near the top of their wall-climbing fixes, and Beatbot says a full basket makes the robot retry climbs until the battery runs down.

Why do pool robots stop climbing walls?
The robot holds the wall with suction or a water jet, so anything that cuts flow cuts grip. That means a full basket, debris in the impeller or a low battery. Next comes the wall itself. Aiper says pebble aggregate gives less grip, very smooth vinyl or fiberglass can reduce traction, and algae makes any wall slippery, per Maytronics' Wave 90i manual.
How do you fix an Aiper that won't climb walls?
Charge fully, choose Wall+Floor or Auto mode before you start, and clean the drive rollers. Aiper's X1 wall-climbing page says pools deeper than 8 ft may need a second cycle. For the Seagull Pro, Aiper's wall page adds a water level of at least mid-skimmer. More on the brand at our Aiper hub.
How do you fix a Beatbot that won't climb walls?
Clean the basket first; Beatbot's help center calls it the most common factor. Use the standard basket rather than the ultra-fine one in a dirty pool, charge fully, and pick Wall Mode with the runtime set to Max. Then send Beatbot an app log and the serial number. See the Beatbot hub.
How do you fix a Dolphin that won't climb walls?
Clean the filter, check pH and scrub any algae, and clear the impeller. Then confirm the water is above 59°F and that the power supply sits mid-way along the long side, at least 12 ft back. For walls too smooth for the standard rear brush, Maytronics says to ask a dealer about a Wonder Brush. See the Dolphin hub.
What about WYBOT robots?
WYBOT's support page didn't list a wall-climbing fix when we checked on Oct 29, 2026, so start with the five first steps above and contact WYBOT with your model and serial number. See the WYBOT hub.
Does a Florida pool make wall climbing harder?
It can. Fine pollen and sand in a screened lanai fill ultra-fine baskets fast, which is why Beatbot says to use the standard basket in a dirty pool. Year-round heat also means algae can grow on walls whenever chemistry slips. If climbing is fine but the robot won't move, charge or stay down, use the not moving or charging checklist.
Is it time to replace the robot?
Not over wall climbing alone, if the steps above fix it. If support says the motor or battery has failed outside warranty, compare the quote with a new robot from our best robotic pool cleaners list, and see how long pool robots last for warranty terms by brand. Our methodology explains how we pick.
US availability side note: models the FCC authorized before its July 2026 robot rule can still be sold here. Read the FCC robot rule explained or use the US availability check.

Frequently asked questions
Why won't my pool robot climb the walls?
Most often a clogged filter basket, a low battery or a floor-only mode. Clean the basket, charge to 100% and pick a wall mode. Algae, cold water and very rough or very smooth walls are the next causes.
Why does my pool robot climb halfway up the wall and stop?
Aiper names a low charge and high-friction finishes such as pebble aggregate. Charge fully, clean the drive rollers and run a second wall cycle. In pools deeper than 9 ft, Aiper says partial wall coverage per cycle is normal.
Can pool robots climb vinyl walls?
Aiper says its X1 Pro and Pro Max work best on smooth plaster, fiberglass and vinyl, but that very smooth vinyl or fiberglass can reduce traction on its S1. Maytronics offers a different rear brush for very smooth walls through dealers.
Does cold water stop a pool robot from climbing?
It can. Maytronics' Wave 90i manual says climbing may suffer below 59°F and lists 43 to 95°F as the operating range.
